Purpose of the position  

The Aluminium Fabricator is responsible for meeting production targets for Aluminium products at the Central Otago operation in a safe and efficient manner in order to produce high quality window systems that exceed our customers’ expectations. They will support the culture of ‘safety first’ through ensuring they adhere to the company’s Health and Safety policies in all their actions.

Production and Manufacturing

• Lead by example demonstrating the companies core values in all their interactions with their team

• Effectively undertakes production processing of Aluminium products as required

• Meets goals and targets in order to achieve required deadlines

• Undertakes regular maintenance on all plant in their area, ensuring blades are maintained along with lubricant etc.

• Provides regular communication to Supervisor/Manager on the order of jobs and missing products ensuring they are followed through to conclusion

• Help with problem solving and offer support as required

Planning

• Provides regular and effective communication with the Supervisor/Manager on order of jobs to be completed, missing products and link the two areas together

• Proactive communication with Supervisor/Manager on any issues affecting production ensuring trends are reported in a timely manner

• Ability to identify the links between operational issues faced by the team and the implications for the customer order

• Provides support for stock taking as required

• Attends weekly production meetings to ensure stock on hand or stock on order will meet production schedule

Health & Safety

• Demonstrates visible safety leadership and supports building a ‘safety first’ culture and activities that build this strong safety culture

• Ensure that health and safety management systems are followed and adhered to and that safety and protection is at the forefront of employee’s minds during all operations

• Supports the Health and Safety risk management framework to ensure risks/hazards are identified and controls are implemented to either eliminate or minimise the risk

• Proactively addresses safety issues and gets personally involved with challenging unsafe behaviours and practices at all levels

• Ensures all work is carried out in a safe and responsible manner that does not compromise the health and safety of self or others in the workplace

• Follows company policy in regard to Health and Safety including reporting of all accidents/incidents and risks/hazards

• Keep abreast of and ensure compliance with all health and safety legislation including any regulations and leading safety practices

• Ensures the selected Health and Safety Management software is used in order to support the aim of simplifying risk management and improving internal processes

• Responsible for the implementation of annual health and safety plans and objectives and oversees the completion of tasks in the production area which are outlined in the Annual Review Schedule

• Supports completion of risk assessments, audits, investigations for accidents/incidents, attends and facilitates safety meetings and follows workplace procedures

General

• Promote and maintain the high professional standards and image of Design Windows

• Regular reporting as required by management in areas of accountability

• Perform other such duties as reasonably requested within their experience and capabilities by their Manager or Supervisor

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

• Previous experience in Building Industry / Aluminium Joinery / Fabrication role / Engineering role

• Knowledge of manufacturing processes

• Ability to read shop drawings and workshop manuals to determine machining requirements

• Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team

• Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and maintain a strong service ethic

• Ability to communicate effectively.

Other Requirements

• A NZ Driver Licence, Class 1 Motor Vehicle is required

• OSH approved forklift licensed operator, F Endorsement is preferred.
