About the Role:
We’re looking for a qualified and experienced Meat Inspector to join our close-knit team at a small, family-run lamb abattoir in Arrowtown. This part-time role suits someone who values high standards in food safety and animal welfare, and enjoys working in a practical, hands-on environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct carcass inspections and hygiene monitoring (including swabbing)
Identify and report any signs of disease or contamination
Assess and manage unfit carcasses, ensuring proper disposal procedures are followed
Assist with carcass chiller stock rotation
Support the Abattoir Manager with compliance and documentation requirements
Maintain strict hygiene and biosecurity standards during slaughter operations
Help with end-of-day cleaning and sanitation of equipment
About You:
Hold a current Meat Inspection Certificate
Have proven experience in an abattoir or meat processing environment
Strong understanding of hygiene, safety, and compliance requirements
Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work well within a small team
Someone reliable, detail-oriented, and confident making sound decisions
A positive attitude and commitment to maintaining the highest operational standards
